BECKLEY, W.VA. On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Evann Robinson, 40, of Detroit, Michigan, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk to 90 months in federal prison, immediately followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of Methamphetamine.
According to documents filed with the District Court, on May 9, 2023, during an ongoing illicit narcotics investigation, Robinson sold a substance containing methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Beckley, West Virginia, during a controlled buy, under the observation and recorded by law enforcement investigators.
Investigators Execute Search Warrant
Following the controlled buy, on May 15, 2023, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at a Beckley residence where Robinson was living. During the search, investigators uncovered and seized quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and $9,350 in U.S. currency, including the $40 photographed and used in the controlled buy.
In handing down the sentence on Thursday, Judge Volk noted Robinson’s extensive criminal history, which included convictions for assault with intent to cause great bodily injury, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and a prisoner in possession of a weapon.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit.
