Man Charged For Shooting Two, One Fatally In Southeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, a 22-year-old Southeast, D.C. man was taken into custody and charged in connection with the October 23, 2024, Southeast, D.C., mid-day shooting of two, killing one and leaving another hospitalized.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at around 11:45 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to multiple reports of a shooting on the 2300 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts by medical staff, one of the men, identified as Antonio Kojesus Riley, 44, of Southeast, D.C., succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The other man was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Suspect Identified And Arrested
Following an investigation by Detectives on Friday, December 20, 2024, members of the U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Dawayne Smith, 22, of Southeast, D.C., pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant charging him with first-degree Murder While Armed and related weapons offenses.
Smith was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
