SYRACUSE, NY.- A 27-year-old Mexican illegal immigrant who was previously deported three times from the U.S. will be spending the next year in federal prison after being sentenced for illegally re-entering the United States for the fourth time.
On Friday, December 20, 2024, Juan Jose-Ambrosio, 27, who was living illegally in Onondaga County, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for his guilty plea to the charge of Illegal Re-Entry into the United States by a Previous Deported Alien.
According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and charging documents filed with the court, Jose-Ambrosio had previously been deported from the United States to Mexico three times.
As part of his previously entered guilty plea, Jose-Ambrosio admitted that he had been convicted of illegal reentry into the U.S. in August 2023 and deported shortly thereafter. Once again, Jose-Ambrosio returned to the U.S. and was found in the United States in Syracuse, New York, after he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and without a New York State Driver’s License.
Upon completing his 12-month federal prison term, Jose-Ambrosio will be immediately removed from the United States.
U.S. Attorney Freedman commended the investigative work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the United States Marshals Service, and the Town of New Hartford Police Department for the successful apprehension and prosecution of Jose-Ambrosio.
