Police Charge Man For May 7th Southeast D.C. Homicide

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Monday, a 35-year-old Southeast, D.C. man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting death of a 42-year-old man inside a Southeast, D.C. residence in May 2024.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at around 2:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting inside a residence located on the 3400 Block of 25th Street in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers and First Responders found a man, later identified as Tremaine Nicholson, 42, unresponsive from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services pronounced Mr. Nicholson deceased at the scene.
Investigation Leads To Charges
Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, Detectives were able to identify Robert Carpenter, 35, of Southeast, D.C., as the shooter and the individual responsible for fatally shooting Mr. Nicholson. Accordingly, Detectives charged Carpenter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Monday, December 23, 2024, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located Carpenter and arrested him pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant charging him with second-degree Murder While Armed and related weapons offenses.
Carpenter was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
