EVANSVILLE, IN.- On Wednesday, a 51-year-old Evansville domestic abuser learned that he would be spending the next sixteen and a half years in federal prison for shooting his ex-girlfriend in August 2023 and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, Ronald Jeremey McCallister, 51, of Evansville, Indiana, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Richard L. Young to 200 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea of Possession of a Firearm by a Previously Convicted Felon.
According to U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Police Officers were advised that a woman had been shot by her ex-boyfriend, identified as Ronald McCallister.
Police Officers Find Ex-Girlfriend Shot In The Foot
Upon arrival at the residence, Police Officers found a woman in the backyard near a tent, suffering from a gunshot wound to her left ankle. The woman told responding Police Officers that McCallister had been sending her suicidal messages through Facebook Messenger.
After receiving the suicidal messages, she drove to the house where McCallister was living in a tent in the backyard, hoping to offer him some emotional support. The ensuing conversation quickly escalated into an argument, at which point McCallister pulled out a gun and placed it next to the woman’s head. McCallister then fired one shot next to her face and then pointed the gun at her foot, and pulled the trigger, discharging a round into her left ankle. McCallister then fled into the house, leaving the woman on the ground in the backyard.
Police Officers entered the house and, during a search, found McCallister hiding in a bedroom. Police Officers also located McCallister’s gun, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
McCallister has an extensive criminal history, including felony convictions for domestic battery, robbery resulting in bodily injury, battery utilizing a deadly weapon, and armed robbery.
