FORT WAYNE, IN.- On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Gregory L. Thorpe, Jr., 28, of Carmel, Indiana, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Holly A. Brady to 84 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Making a Material False and Fictitious Statement on a Federal Firearms Form.

According to U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson and documents filed with the court, during the summer of 2021, Thorpe purchased a handgun from a licensed firearms dealer and also attempted to make additional firearms purchases while providing false information regarding his legal address during the purchases.

During a motor vehicle traffic stop in Hendricks County in May 2022, Police Officers located one of the illegally purchased firearms in the trunk of his vehicle. After discovering the firearm, a subsequent and thorough search of the trunk uncovered 2.9 kilograms of fentanyl pills.
