Trenton Man Charged With The Aggravated Sexual Assault Of A Child

TRENTON, NJ.- On Sunday, following an investigation by Detectives of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Trenton Police Department, a 51-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl while she was sleeping.
On Sunday, December 29, 2024, Detectives arrested and charged Jose Agustin-Hernandez, 51, of Trenton, with one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; one count of second-degree Criminal Sexual Contact; and one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Agustin-Hernandez Remanded To County Jail
Agustin-Hernandez was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Mercer County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Agustin-Hernandez pending trial.
According to allegations filed in the complaint and the affidavit of probable cause, on the evening of Tuesday, December 23, 2024, during a prayer service at an in-home chapel on Hamilton Avenue in the City of Trenton, an individual entered a room where a six-year-old girl was sleeping and sexually assaulted her. The child ran out of the room crying and told a family member.
Individuals from inside the residence attempted to chase down the man, who fled out of the residence and down to the corner, where they lost sight of him.
Detectives Identify Agustin-Hernandz As The Suspect
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Trenton Police Department and the Mercer County Special Victims Unit interviewed multiple witnesses, including the child victim, and collected and reviewed video surveillance footage from various locations and were able to identify Agustin-Hernandez as the perpetrator who entered the residence and sexually assaulted the young girl.
