BAYVILLE, NJ.- A 52-year-old man whose last known address was Valley Stream, New York, and who remained on the run for fifteen years after being charged in connection with a 2009 fatal motor vehicle crash along the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, New Jersey, was apprehended on Christmas Eve in Queens, New York.
On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Chaudhry Yousaf, 52, was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. On Friday, December 27, 2024, Yousaf was extradited to New Jersey and is currently detained in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, New Jersey.
According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on March 28, 2009, members of the New Jersey State Police responded to the area of milepost 77 on the Garden State Parkway in Bayville, New Jersey, on reports of a single motor vehicle crash.
Investigation In 2009 Led To Yousaf Being Charged
An investigation by Detectives of the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Unit and the New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit determined that a Black Lincoln Town Car, driven by Yousaf and with two passengers inside, Harris Kahn, 26, of Queens, New York and Kishwa Jahan, 32, of Queens Village, New York, was traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway when Yousaf lost control of the Town Car. The Town Car struck a roadway sign and then continued into a wooded area, sticking a tree and coming to a stop.
Responding State Troopers found that Yousaf appeared to be intoxicated at the scene. Yousaf was initially arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. Yousaf was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Ms. Jahan was also transported to Community Medical Center for treatment and released. Mr. Kahn was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of serious injuries. On March 29, 2009, despite life-saving efforts by doctors, Mr. Kahn tragically succumbed to injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased.
On March 29, 2009, following Mr. Kahn’s death, Yousaf was taken into custody at Community Medical Center and formally charged with Vehicular Homicide. After being released, Yousaf was transported to the Ocean County Jail. On March 30, 2009, the court set monetary bail for $150,000, which Yousaf posted and was released from jail on that date.
On February 5, 2010, Yousaf failed to appear for a mandatory court appearance in Ocean County Superior Court, and a Superior Court Judge issued a warrant for his arrest. Yousaf remained a fugitive from justice until he was taken into custody on December 24, 2024, in Queens, New York.
