OMAHA, NE.- A 76-year-old Omaha, Nebraska man, and convicted child predator learned that he would most likely die in prison after he was sentenced last month to over twelve years in federal prison for possessing nearly half a million digital images of child pornography.
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Edward Charles Lynch, 76, of Omaha, Nebraska, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Brian C. Buescher to 151 months in federal prison, to be followed by eight years of supervised release for his conviction of Possession of Child Pornography.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Buescher ordered Lynch to pay $114,000 in restitution to his identified victims and $7,600 in special assessments. Lynch was previously convicted in November of 1996 of Sexual Assault of a Child in Sarpy County, Nebraska.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to U.S. Attorney Susan T. Lehr and charging information filed with the court, on June 16, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received information from Bing Image-Online Operations about digital images of a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct being uploaded by a user of the online service.
Law enforcement investigators identified the IP address associated with the file upload and determined the subscriber assigned the IP address to Lynch, and the IP address was associated with Lynch’s residence in Omaha, Nebraska.
Following the identification, on October 19, 2022, federal and state investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Lynch’s residence. During the search, investigators seized Lynch’s computer. A forensic examination of the computer uncovered 443,731 digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children.
