CHARLESTON, W.VA.- Today, January 2, 2025, Elliot J. Santiago, 25, of Brooklyn, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas E. Johnston to time served and five years of supervised release for his conviction on the charge of Failure to Provide Information on Interstate Travel required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
Santiago Served 14 Months In Prison
Prior to today’s sentence, Santiago has served 14 months in federal custody after being arrested on the charge.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the District Court, Santiago was required to comply with the provisions of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act due to his prior conviction for first-degree Sexual Abuse in Monongalia County Circuit Court in August 2019.
From around May 30, 2023, to around October 25, 2023, Santiago failed to notify officials that he had traveled from Charleston, West Virginia, to Toledo, Ohio, and then to Brooklyn, New York, where he was taken into custody.
U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of the United States Marshals Service for Santiago’s arrest and conviction.
