Woman Killed, & One Injured In New Year’s Eve Residencial Fire

PASSAIC, NJ.- On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit responded to 361 Madison Street in the City of Passaic after they were notified that an individual was tragically killed in an apartment fire at that location.
Upon arriving on the scene, Detectives learned from Firefighters from the Passaic Fire Department and Passaic Police Officers that during fire suppression at 361 Madison Street in the City of Passaic, Firefighters discovered the body of a 50-year-old woman, who had apparently succumbed from injuries she sustained in the fire, and another individual that sustained injures who was transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey for treatment.
During the initial investigation, Detectives and Fire Investigators determined that the fire originated in a first-floor apartment and quickly spread. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The woman’s identity was not released pending autopsy findings and notification of family members.
All other residents of the apartment building were evacuated until the structure was deemed safe by the City of Passiac Construction officials.
