Elizabeth Man Charged For Monday Morning’s Fatal Stabbing Of Girlfriend

ELIZABETH, NJ.- Today, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported that following an investigation, a 52-year-old Elizabeth, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with Monday morning’s stabbing death of his 31-year-old girlfriend.
Jose Melo, 52, of Elizabeth, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Melo was possessed on the charges and was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Union County Superior Court in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
According To Elizabeth Police
According to the initial police reports, on Monday, December 30, 2024, shortly after 9:00 a.m., members of the Elizabeth Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing at a Florida Street residence in the City of Elizabeth.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, 31, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, deceased at the scene.
A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department led to Melo being arrested and charged with Ms. Maldonado’s death.
