Man Found Dead In Hallway Of Southeast, D.C. Building

WASHINGTON, DC.- Metropolitan Police Detectives are continuing the investigation into the shooting death of a 48-year-old Southeast, D.C., man who was found lying dead in the hallway of a Southeast building Thursday afternoon.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, shortly after 2:30 p.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the Unit Block of 18th Street in Southeast, D.C., following receiving reports of an unconscious man inside a building.

Police Officers Find Victim Dead In Hallway

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Eugene Jefferson, 48, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive, lying in the hallway of the building. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and pronounced Mr. Jefferson deceased.

     On Friday, January 3, 2025, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the Cause of Mr. Jefferson’s Death to be a Gunshot Wound, and the Manner of Death was ruled to be Homicide.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been reported at this time.

     The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Jefferson.
