PHILADELPHIA, PA.- On Thursday, January 2, 2025, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero reported that two Philadelphia men were sentenced in connection with the September 2022 armed robbery and shooting of the targeted robbery victim in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, Naim Newsome-Bostick, 27, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark A. Kearney to 160 months in federal prison, to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to one count of Attempted Hobbs Act Robbery.
In December 2024, Newsome-Bostick’s co-defendant Nadir Gray, 22, also from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, appeared before Judge Kearney and was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison, to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment fee for his guilty plea to one count of Attempted Hobbs Act Robbery.
According to the charging information unsealed in a 2023 superseding indictment, in July 2024, both Newsome-Bostick and Gray pleaded guilty to robbing a man who they believed to be a marijuana dealer on September 14, 2022. As part of their plea agreement, both men admitted that they had robbed the victim at gunpoint.
Both Men Forced Victim Into Car At Gunpoint
During the robbery, Newsome-Bostick and Gray forced the victim into their motor vehicle at gunpoint and then robbed of his Rolex watch, wallet, and $3,000 in cash. As Newsome-Bostick and Gray drove around, the victim began to fight with one in the back of the vehicle. Amid the commotion, the vehicle crashed into a parked car. Newsome-Bostick then shot the victim three times, then he and Gray fled the scene on foot. Philadelphia Police Officers responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital, where he was treated and subsequently recovered from the gunshot wounds.
Newsome-Bostick was arrested later that day by members of the Philadelphia Police Department, and Gray was arrested in September 2023 by members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
“Anyone who thinks they can carry out an armed robbery in this city and get off scot-free should take a good look at this case,” said U.S. Attorney Romero. “My office, the ATF, and the Philadelphia Police Department will continue to prioritize and prosecute these violent crimes, no matter who the victim may be, and we’ll see to it that the perpetrators are held accountable.”
