GLEN ROCK, NJ.- The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has released the identity of an elderly man who succumbed to injuries he sustained after firefighters found him inside his burning Birchwood Road home Sunday night.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, shortly before 9:30 p.m., members of the Glen Rock Police Department and the Glen Rock Fire Department, along with other area Fire Departments, responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a house fire on Birchwood Road in the Borough of Glen Rock.

Firefighters Find Elderly Man Inside Burning Home

Upon arrival, Police Officers and Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home. During the initial fire suppression, Firefighters found an unresponsive man, later identified as Frederick Visser, 82, the homeowner of the residence. First responders performed CPR, and Mr. Visser was immediately transported to Valley Hospital in critical condition, where, despite life-saving efforts by medical staff, Mr. Visser tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives from the Glen Rock Police Department, the Glen Rock Fire Department, and the Glen Rock Fire Prevention Bureau, with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad, conducted a joint investigation and determined that the fire did not appear suspicious. However, the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
