ALBANY, NY.- On Monday, January 6, 2025, Devon Newsome, 32, of Forrest Park, Georgia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Anne M. Nardacci to 60 months in federal prison, to be immediately followed by three years of supervised release for Unlawful Interstate Transfer of Firearms.

According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and statements made in the District Court during his previous plea allocution, Newsome admitted that on May 21, 2023, he delivered 29 firearms to a New York resident in the State of Georgia, including numerous stolen firearms and a handgun equipped with a machinegun conversion device.

Those firearms were then transported from Georgia to a residence on Western Avenue in Albany, New York. Newsome knew the firearms would be transported to New York and knew neither he nor the person for whom the guns were destined was a licensed firearms dealer or broker. On May 23, 2023, federal and state investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Western Avenue property and found 34 firearms, including the firearms that Newsome had transferred.

Additional Defendants Charged And Convicted In The Case

The following defendants were also charged and sentenced in this case. Anthony Luizzi was charged and pled guilty to federal drug and gun crimes and was sentenced on October 1, 2024, to 210 months in federal prison and a $10,000 fine. Brandon Bartley was charged and pled guilty to federal drug and gun crimes and was sentenced on September 24, 2024, to 180 months in federal prison and a $5,000 fine. Jabree Jones was charged with violating the terms of his supervised release for federal drug and gun crimes and is currently awaiting a final revocation hearing, which has been scheduled for January 29, 2025.

Another suspect in the investigation, Anthony Zaremski, was fatally shot during the execution of a federal search warrant on May 23, 2023, at Zaremski’s apartment in Clifton Park, New York, after Zaremski opened fire and wounded two officers.
