PITTSBURGH, PA.- On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, David Loveings, 71, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand to one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute 500 Grams or More of Cocaine.
After entering his guilty plea on Tuesday, Judge Wiegand accepted the guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for May 13, 2025, at which time Loveings faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison as well as a fine of not more than $5 million, or both. At the time of sentencing, Judge Wiegand will determine the actual term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Loveings’ prior criminal history, if any.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and charging information filed with the District Court, members of the Pittsburgh Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Loveings’ motor vehicle for multiple traffic violations.
The traffic stop eventually led to a consent search of Loveings’ vehicle. During the search, Police Officers found and seized just around 927 grams of cocaine. During his plea hearing, Loveings admitted that he knowingly possessed the cocaine that was located inside his vehicle and intended to distribute it.
U.S. Attorney Olshan commended the investigative work of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Lovings.
