Teen Charged In November 2024 East Capitol Street, Southeast Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department charged a 17-year-old boy in connection with the November 2024 shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, November 22, 2024, shortly before 9:45 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to reports of a shooting near Eastern High School located on the 1700 Block of East Capitol Street in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 15-year-old boy suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The teen was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since recovered.
During the initial investigation, Detectives determined that the shooting occurred in an alley behind an apartment complex on the 1700 Block of East Capitol Street in Southeast, D.C. Following being shot, the boy then ran to Eastern High School requesting help.
Detectives Identify 17-Year-Old As The Shooter
Further investigation led to Detectives identifying the 17-year-old male being identified as the shooter, and a D.C. Superior Court Custody Order for Assault With a Dangerous Weapon was issued. On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the 17-year-old boy was located and taken into custody in Prince George’s County, Maryland, by members of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
