Dominican Man Charged For Possessing 5 Kilograms of Fentanyl & Assault Rifle At Migrant Shelter

BOSTON, MA.- On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, 28, a Dominican national in the United States illegally and residing at the Quality Inn Hotel in Revere, Massachusetts, was charged by federal criminal complaint with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute 400 grams or More of Fentanyl; and one count of being an Alien in Possession of a Firearm.

     Andujar Sanchez, who entered the United States unlawfully, is currently in Massachusetts state custody on related charges and made his initial appearance in federal court in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday and was ordered detained pending trial.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

     According to U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy and charging information filed in the criminal complaint, Andujar Sanchez was residing in the Quality Inn in Revere. When on December 27, 2024, during a court-authorized search of Andujar Sanchez’s hotel room, Massachusetts state law enforcement investigators located and seized 5 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, an AR-style assault rifle, ammunition, two ammunition magazines, digital scales, and a large quantity of latex gloves. During the search, Andujar Sanchez was immediately taken into state custody.

     If convicted at trial on the narcotics charge, Andujar Sanchez faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, at least five years of supervised release, and a $10 million fine. On the firearms charge, Andujar Sanchez faces up to 15 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
