Albany County Man Sentenced For Receiving Child Pornography

ALBANY, NY.- On Friday, January 10, 2025, Taykwun Smoaks, 32, of Albany, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Anne M. Nardacci to 87 months in federal prison, to be followed by fifteen years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea for Receipt of Child Pornography.
During Friday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Nardacci also ordered Smoaks to pay restitution of $3,000 to each of his identified victims for a total of $45,000. In addition, Smoaks, upon his release from prison, must immediately register as a sex offender in the national database.
According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and part of his prior guilty plea, Smoaks admitted that beginning in February 2023 and lasting through March 2023, he utilized the internet to view, download, and possess more than 600 video files and 22,000 digital images depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
Smoaks Possessed Images Of Sexual Abuse Of Infants And Toddlers
Many of the digital images and video files depicted the sexual abuse of prepubescent children, including images that involved sadistic and masochistic conduct and digital images and video files depicting the sexual abuse of toddlers and infants by adults.
