MARTINSBURG, W.VA.- On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Robert Hamlett, 49, of Charlotte, North Carolina, appeared in the U.S. District for the Northern District Court of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gina M. Groh to 24 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his conviction on the federal charge of being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and documents filed with the District Court, during a traffic stop on Hamlett’s vehicle on the interstate in Martinsburg, West Virginia, members of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office found that Hamlett was in possession of a firearm.

A subsequent records check revealed that the firearm was reported stolen and that Hamlett had prior felony convictions. Hamlett knew he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his prior felony drug and firearms convictions.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case.
