CORPUS CHRISTI, TX.- On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Jose Humberto Morales, 45, of Corpus Christi, Texas, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos to 130 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to a federal narcotics violation.

Humberto Morales previously appeared in the U.S. District on October 24, 2024, and pleaded guilty to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

Judge Ramos Notes Morales’ Lengthy Criminal History

In handing down the sentence on Wednesday, Judge Ramos noted Morales’ lengthy criminal history, which dates back to 1996 and includes more than ten state felony convictions.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and charging documents filed with the District Court, on May 5, 2023, Police Officers observed Morales, a known gang member, who they knew to have active arrest warrants, on the street outside of a residence in Corpus Christi.

During his arrest, Police Officers found Morales to be in possession of three separate plastic baggies containing what Police Officers believed to be methamphetamine. A subsequent analysis confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine, and three baggies contained a combined weight of 50 grams of methamphetamine.

While in custody, Morales was later recorded on a jail call admitting that he intended to distribute the three bags of methamphetamine. Morales will remain in federal custody pending his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his federal prison term.
