Fairview Man Charged After Striking Woman With A Machete

FAIRVIEW, NJ.- On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a 37-year-old Fairview, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with nearly killing a 49-year-old Fairview, New Jersey, woman with a machete in the hallway of an apartment building.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the Fairview Police Department responded to a serious assault at an apartment building on Day Avenue in Fairview.

Police Officers Find Female Victim With Laceration To Her Head

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 49-year-old woman suffering from a large laceration to her head. The woman was immediately transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she remains hospitalized and listed in stable condition.

     After striking the woman, the suspect fled the scene before responding Police Officers arrived at the scene. Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit were notified, and a joint investigation was launched with the Fairview Police Department.

     During the investigation, Detectives were to identify the suspect as Josue G. Corea, 37, of Fairview, a resident of the apartment building. The investigation further determined that Corea approached the woman in the common hallway of the apartment building and struck her in the head with a large machete. Corea attempted to strike the woman several more times before fleeing the building.

     Around 45 minutes later, Corea was spotted and taken into custody on River Road in Edgewater, New Jersey, by members of the Cliffside Police Department.

     Accordingly, on Tuesday, Corea was formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; fourth-degree Resisting Arrest by Flight; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

     Corea was processed on the charges and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
