RIVER VALE, NJ.- On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, a 29-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a child last week that he met on the social media platform Snapchat, then attempting to meet the child again, for another sexual encounter.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Friday, January 17, 2025, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit was contacted by the River Vale Police Department after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault of a child that occurred a few days earlier.

During the initial investigation, Detectives uncovered that a stranger contacted a child under the age of sixteen on the social media platform Snapchat and engaged in an online conversation, then made arrangements to meet the child in River Vale, New Jersey, and on Thursday, January 16, 2025, sexually assaulted the child.

Investigation Identifies McCann

As the investigation continued, Detectives learned that the stranger continued to contact the child and planned another meeting to engage in sexual activity. During further investigation, Detectives identified the stranger as Guy R. McCann, II, 29, of North Bergen, New Jersey. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, McCann traveled from North Bergen to River Vale to meet the child but instead was met by Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the River Vale Police Department, and after a brief foot chase, was arrested by Detectives.

Accordingly, McCann was taken into custody and formally charged with second-degree Sexual Assault; second-degree Attempted Sexual Assault; two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; fourth-degree Resisting Arrest; and fourth-degree Criminal Mischief. McCann was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
