Neptune Township Police Officer Charged With Computer-Related Crime

Thursday, January 23, 2025, 7:00 P.M. ET. 1 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Earlier this week, a 29-year-old Neptune Township, New Jersey, Police Officer was criminally charged with accessing the State’s computer database to lookup a woman’s personal information and then showing up at her house in hopes of taking her on a date.

According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, Joshua A. James, 29, was formally charged with one count of third-degree Computer-Related Criminal Activity.

The charge stems from an investigation that was led by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Responsibility Unit. During the investigation, Detectives revealed that James was working a detail outside a local elementary school earlier this month when he observed a woman picking up her child. He then looked up her license plate and home address in two law enforcement databases intended strictly for policing purposes.

James then drove to the woman’s home and asked if she was single and whether he could have her phone number.

Following being charged earlier this week, James was suspended from duty from the Neptune Township Police Department.

Anyone with information about James’s activities is urged to contact Detective Ryan Mahony of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at (800) 533-7443.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
