WASHINGTON, DC.- A 35-year-old man who thought he escaped arrest in connection with the 2012 Northeast, D.C. armed sexual assault thought wrong when he was apprehended on Wednesday by members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and charged with the sexual assault.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith and the initial case file on Thursday, January 12, 2012, an unknown suspect, later identified as Cristian Arteaga, 35, approached the victim on the 200 Block of Nicholson Street in Northeast, D.C. Upon making contact with the victim, Arteaga pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s money. Arteaga then assaulted and sexually assaulted the victim at gunpoint before fleeing the scene.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Arteaga was apprehended pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and was formally charged with one count of first-degree Sexual Abuse while Armed. Arteaga was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
