Police Charge Man In December’s Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- Following an ongoing investigation, on Wednesday, a 27-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on December 29, 2024, in the City of Paterson, leaving a 28-year-old Paterson man hospitalized from a gunshot wound.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Highland Street and Park Place in the City of Paterson.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 28-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man, having sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he underwent treatment and was released.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit were able to identify Dandre Jacobus, 27, of Paterson, as the shooter and the individual responsible for injuring the man.
On Wednesday, January 23, 2025, Jacobus was located and taken into custody without incident by members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force in the area of Liberty Street and Route 46 in South Hackensack, New Jersey.
Accordingly, Jacobus was formally charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Jacobus was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department pending transfer to an area county jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Jacobus pending trial.
   If convicted at trial, Jacobus faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison and a consecutive 10 years in State Prison for the charge of certain persons not to possess weapons.
