Carteret Man Charged For Tuesday’s Near Beating Death Of Infant Son

CARTERET, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 20-year-old Carteret, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with Tuesday’s beating of his six-week-old infant son.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, shortly after 1:00 p.m., members of the Carteret Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an infant with severe facial and head injuries at a residence located on Clauss Street in the Borough of Carteret.
Police Find Infant Boy Severely Injured
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a six-week-old infant boy suffering from severe facial and head trauma. The baby boy was immediately transported to Saint Peter’s Children’s Pediatric Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where the baby remains listed in critical condition.
During the ensuing investigation, led by Detective William Cox of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, determined that the infant boy’s injuries occurred while in the custody of his father, Ezekiel Crespo, 20, of Carteret, New Jersey.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Crespo was taken into custody and charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Crespo was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Middlesex County Superior Court. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain Crespo pending trial.
