West Wareham Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Child Pornography Offenses

BOSTON, MA.- On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Joshua Roe, 38, of West Wareham, Massachusetts, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy to one count of Receiving Child Pornography; and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
Following entering his guilty pleas on Wednesday, Judge Murphy scheduled sentencing for April 17, 2025, at which time Roe faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine on each of the charges. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Roe’s prior criminal history, if any.

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and charging information filed with the court, following an ongoing investigation into online child pornography activity. Roe was identified by law enforcement investigators as an individual who was allegedly utilizing the internet to view, download, and possess digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
On September 6, 2024, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Roe’s West Wareham residence. During the search, investigators seized eleven electronic devices. While at Roe’s home, a forensic examination was conducted on one of the devices, and investigators uncovered digital images and video files of child pornography. At that time, Roe was taken into custody and formally charged. Roe has remained in federal custody since his initial arrest.
At a later date, a complete forensic examination of the eleven electronic devices uncovered hundreds of digital images and video files on at least seven of the devices depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
