Carteret Man Charged In Connection With January 11th Fatal Crash

CARTERET, NJ.- Following an investigation, on Thursday, a 23-year-old Carteret, New Jersey, was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred during the evening hours on January 11, 2025, in the Borough of Carteret that tragically claimed the life of a 34-year-old Avenel, New Jersey woman.

     According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, shortly before 10:00 p.m., members of the Carteret Police Department responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle crash on the West Carteret Bridge on Roosevelt Avenue in the Borough.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a two-vehicle crash involving an Infiniti and a Toyota Camry that collided. The Infiniti was operated by Cristina Flores, 34, of the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. Ms. Flores tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

     The driver of the Toyota Camry, Jair Montero-Moran, 23, of Carteret, New Jersey, sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he remains.

Investigation Leads To Charges Being Filed

     An extensive investigation led by Detective Eric Guzman of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Montero-Moran caused the crash that claimed the life of Ms. Flores.

     Accordingly, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Montero-Moran was arrested and formally charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter; and second-degree Vehicular Homicide.
