Huntington Man Sentenced For Federal Firearms Violation

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Monday, January 27, 2025, Alonzo Dewayne Harden, 31, of Huntington, West Virginia, 31, of Huntington, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to 57 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and documents filed in the court, on May 17, 2024, members of the Huntington Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in Huntington, West Virginia, in which Harden was a passenger.
Police Officers Find Gun After Foot Chase
   Harden exited the vehicle and fled on foot before Police Officers apprehended him. While fleeing, Harden tossed a loaded Glock .40-caliber handgun with an extended magazine on the ground. Following apprehending Harden, Police Officers recovered the handgun.
Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from owning or possessing a firearm and ammunition. Harden knew when he possessed the Glock handgun on May 17, 2024, he was prohibited from possessing the gun due to felony convictions for malicious assault and use or presentment of a firearm during the commission of a felony in Cabell County Circuit Court in August 2021.
