CHARLESTON, W.VA.- A 40-year-old three-time convicted Beckley West, Virginia fentanyl dealer will be heading back to federal prison after he was sentenced on Thursday for selling deadly fentanyl to a confidential informant not once but five times in Raleigh County, West Virginia.

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, Anthony Darnell Deberry, 40, of Beckley, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk to 70 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to the Distribution of Fentanyl.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the District Court, on May 3, 2023, Deberry sold a quantity of a substance containing fentanyl to a confidential informant at his residence in Beckley, West Virginia, during a controlled buy under the observation of law enforcement investigators.

During his plea allocution, Deberry admitted to the transaction and further admitted to selling fentanyl to the confidential informant at least four other times within Raleigh County, West Virginia.

Following the controlled buys, on July 5, 2023, investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Deberry’s Beckley residence. During the search, investigators found two 9mm handguns, 9mm ammunition, and $2,000 in U.S. currency, and around 76.5 grams of fentanyl. Deberry further admitted that he possessed the fentanyl seized during the search and intended to distribute it.

In handing down the sentence on Thursday, Judge Volk noted Deberry’s extensive criminal history, which included three prior convictions for drug crimes and a prior conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.
