An Apparent Homeless Man Perishes In A Friday Night Fire

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is continuing the investigation surrounding the death of a man whose body was found following a fire that occurred Friday night in Jersey City, New Jersey.

     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday, January 31, 2025, shortly after 6:00 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the 1000 Block of Newark Avenue in the City.

     Upon extinguishing the fire, Firefighters found the body of an unidentified man in a fire-damaged shelter. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. The Cause and the Manner of the man’s death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. 

     The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, in conjunction with the Jersey City Fire Department, is actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at (201) 915-1345.
