Teen Charged In October 2024, Northwest D.C. Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department charged a 16-year-old Northwest, D.C. boy in connection with the October 2024, Northwest, D.C. shooting death of an 18-year-old Clarksburg, Maryland man.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, October 25, 2024, shortly after 5:45 p.m., a Police Officer of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District was on routine patrol on Georgia Avenue in Northwest, D.C., when he heard gunfire.
Police Find Maryland Man Shot
The Police Officer responded to the area where he heard the gunfire and located a man, later identified as Hamza Jamil Mubah-Wotten, 18, of Clarksburg, Maryland, on the 800 Block of Quincy Avenue in Northwest, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Mubah-Wotten was immediately transported to an area hospital, where, despite life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Monday, October 28, 2024.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify the 16-year-old as the shooter. On Friday, January 31, 2025, pursuant to a District of Columbia Superior Court Custody Order, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested the teen in Maryland.
On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the teen was extradited back to Washington, D.C., where he was charged with second-degree Murder While Armed. Following being processed on the charge, he was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court Family Division.
