Runnemede Man Charged With The Murder Of His Girlfriend

RUNNEMEDE, NJ.- On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, a 45-year-old Runnemede, New Jersey, man who had been on the run since late last summer after an apparent domestic turned deadly, was formally charged in connection with the death of his 50-year-old girlfriend, whose body was found in a refrigerator late last December in Belleplain State Forest in Dennis Township, New Jersey.
   According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Christopher Blevins, 45, of Runnemede, New Jersey, was charged on Wednesday with one count of first-degree Murder for the death of Laura Hughes, 50, of Runnemede, New Jersey. Blevins is currently being detained in the San Diego County Central Jail in California, pending extradition to New Jersey.
Ms. Hughes Body Found
On December 22, 2024, the body of a deceased woman was discovered in a refrigerator in the Belleplain State Park in Cape May County, New Jersey. The woman’s remains were later identified as Ms. Hughes.
   Following an investigation by Detectives of the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. Detectives identified Blevins as Ms. Hughes’ boyfriend, and he became the primary suspect in connection with her death.Â
Detectives Uncover Evidence Of Blevins’ Truck In Area
   Further investigation uncovered evidence of Blevins’ truck transporting what appeared to be a refrigerator-like object in late July 2024 in the area where Ms. Hughes’ remains were found, and a later search of Blevins’ Camden County, New Jersey residence turned up further evidence of the murder.Â
   On January 3, 2025, based on the evidence, Blevins was charged by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office with second-degree Desecration of Human Remains; and third-degree Hindering Apprehension.Â
Blevins Fled To New Jersey
  Blevins fled New Jersey to Mexico in August 2024 through Texas and surrendered to Mexican authorities sometime later. On January 13, 2025, New Jersey authorities learned Blevins had been taken into custody in San Diego, California. It is unclear if Mexican authorities turned Belvins over to the U.S. Marshals Service.
