Police Charge Man In Tuesday’s Southeast Navy Yard Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has charged a 37-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 61-year-old man who was found shot inside a Southeast, D.C. Navy Yard apartment complex, bringing the death toll to three, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, in the Nation’s Capital City.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, shortly around 4:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District responded to a report of a shooting inside an apartment located in an apartment complex on the 1000 Block of 1st Street in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Man Shot By Family Member
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Darryl Smith, 61, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. Mt. Smith was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Services to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
During the initial investigation, responding Police Officers were able to locate and detain the suspect at the scene. Based on the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that the shooting occurred during a domestic dispute and charged the suspect, identified as De’Angelo Goldston, 37, of Southeast, D.C., with second-degree Murder While Armed.
Mr. Goldston was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
