BALTIMORE, MD.- On Thursday, a 75-year-old Hagerstown, Maryland, senior citizen and apparent accused child predator was charged in a 15-count federal indictment in connection with allegedly coercing and enticing young girls to send him sexually explicit images so he could create child pornography.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Maryland returned an indictment charging William Foster Alger, 75, of Hagerstown, Maryland, with seven counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child; three counts of Coercion and Enticement of a Child; five counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
The Indictment Alleges Alger Enticed Three Young Girls
According to U.S. Attorney Erek Barron and charging information unsealed in the indictment, it is alleged that beginning in November 2023 and lasting through December 2024, Alger persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced three young female children to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing and distributing child pornography.
Additionally, the indictment charges Alger with allegedly enticing the young girls to engage in sexually explicit acts. He is also further charged with possessing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children in an internet-based account and stored on four electronic devices seized by law enforcement investigators during the execution of a court-authorized search of Alger’s Hagerstown, Maryland home.
If convicted at trial of the charges contained in the indictment, Alger faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison on each of the seven counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor; a mandatory 10 years and up to life in federal prison on each of the three counts of Coercion and Enticement of a Child; and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison on each of the five counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
When sentenced, following a conviction, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Alger’s prior criminal history, if any.
U.S. Attorney Barron commended the investigative work of Homeland Security Investigations, the Hagerstown Police Department, and the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office for the investigation that led to Alger’s indictment.
“The rules of the federal court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
