Belvidere School Aide Charged With Physically Assaulting Student

BELVIDERE, NJ.- On Wednesday, Acting Warren County Prosecutor Jessica L. Cardone reported, following an investigation on Friday, February 7, 2025, a 60-year-old Stewartsville, New Jersey man, who is employed as a teacher aide with the Belvidere public school system was taken into custody and charged in connection with the alleged physical assault of a 5-year-old child.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Belvidere Police Department received a report that a 5-year-old child had allegedly been physically assaulted during school hours by Philip J. Carlton, 60, of Stewartsville while working as a teacher aide.
Charges Filed
Following a swift-moving investigation, Carlton was taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Carlton was possessed on the charge, pending future court proceedings in Warren County Superior Court in Belvidere, New Jersey.
If convicted at trial, Carlton faces up to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.
