New Haven Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Drug Trafficking Charge

HARTFORD, CT.- On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Joshuwa Diaz, 34, of New Haven, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. Court for the District of Connecticut and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Vernon D. Oliver to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances, Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, and Fentanyl.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Marc H. Silverman and charging documents filed with the District Court, during an investigation, Diaz had been identified as an illicit narcotics distributor. On February 16, 2024, Diaz was taken into custody during the execution of a court-authorized search of his New Haven, Connecticut, apartment.
Search Warrant Uncovers Multiple Illegal Substances
During the search, law enforcement investigators located and seized around 75 grams of fentanyl, 278 grams of cocaine, 47 grams of crack cocaine, and a loaded handgun without a serial number, also known as a “Ghost Gun.”
Following entering his guilty plea on Tuesday, Judge Oliver accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for May 7, 2025. At that time, Diaz faces up to 20 years in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine, or both. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Diaz’s prior criminal history. Diaz will remain free on a $50,000 bond pending sentencing.
