BOSTON, MA.- On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Augustin Landaverde-Romero, 57, an El Salvadorian national illegally residing in Methuen, Massachusetts, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns to Unlawful Reentry by a Previously Deported Alien.

After entering his guilty plea on Thursday, Judge Stearns accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for May 21, 2025. At that time, Landaverde-Romero faces up to two years in federal prison, at least one year of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Upon completion of the term of imprisonment, Landaverde-Romero will face immediate deportation proceedings to be removed from the United States.

At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Landaverde-Romero’s prior criminal history.

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and documents filed with the District Court, on July 13. 2020, Landaverde-Romero was found illegally in Methuen, Massachusetts, without obtaining permission or legal authorization. Landaverde-Romero was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on the charge in March 2024. Landaverde-Romero was previously removed from the U.S. to El Salvador in October 1999.

U.S. Attorney Foley commended the investigative work of Homeland Security Investigations and the Methuen Police Department for the investigation that led to the successful prosecution of Landaverde-Romero.
