According To Acting U.S. Attorney Rich Barker
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Richard Barker and charging information filed with the District Court, in February 2023, a child came forward to law enforcement disclosing that Thieschafer had been sexually abusing the child and, at times, used his cellular phone to take pictures of the sexual abuse.
Following receiving the report, law enforcement investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search at Thieschafer’s home. During the search, investigators seized multiple electronic devices. A subsequent forensic examination of the devices uncovered 3,300 digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, including 877 digital images and video files depicting the sexual abuse of the child that came forward.
Investigators uncovered several video files in which Thieschafer was identified as the person sexually abusing the child in those video files.
“Those who prey on innocent children will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Rich Barker. “Protecting Eastern Washington communities, especially our most vulnerable among us, is a top priority. Our incredible team of prosecutors and support staff will continue to work tirelessly with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners to ensure justice is served.”
