ROXBURY, NJ.- Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll reported on Friday, February 21, 2025, that Auraceli A. Maldonado, 25, formerly of Irvington, New Jersey, appeared in Morris County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Ralph E. Amirata to 12 years in New Jersey State Prison for her previously entered guilty plea, in connection with the October 2023 Roxbury Motel robbery and shooting.

Judge Amirata ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Maldonado to serve 85% of her custodial sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Maldonado Pleads Guilty To Robbery & Aggravated Assault

Maldonado previously appeared before Judge Amirata on January 21, 2025, and pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree Robbery; and one count of second-degree Aggravated Assault.

The guilty plea and Friday’s sentence stem from an investigation that began on October 18, 2023, when members of the Roxbury Police Department responded to the Roxbury Motel, located on Route 46 in Roxbury, New Jersey, after receiving a report of a man being shot. Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 36-year-old man having sustained a serious gunshot wound to his leg. The man was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a severe but not life-threatening injury.

The ensuing investigation uncovered that the victim had planned to meet with an unknown suspect at the motel. Motel video surveillance footage captured a Honda Accord with New York license plates arriving at the parking lot of the motel, and a man and woman were seen exiting the vehicle.

The two individuals, later identified as Maldonado and Jean Omar Rockson, 34, of Orange, New Jersey, met with the victim inside a motel room, at which time they robbed him. Maldonado was armed with an assault-style rifle during the robbery, and during the robbery, a struggle ensued over the firearm, and Maldonado shot the victim in the leg. Maldonado and Rockson then quickly fled the scene after the shooting.

Maldonado was located and detained in Middleburg, Florida, on November 2, 2023, and was extradited back to New Jersey. Rockson was apprehended on February 14, 2024, outside his Orange, New Jersey residence.

Rockson previously entered a guilty plea to first-degree Robbery on October 8, 2024, and is currently awaiting sentencing. Rockson currently remains on home detention.
