Southeast D.C. Man Shot Dead Sunday Morning On Galveston Street

WASHINGTON, DC.- The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 25-year-old man that occurred Sunday morning in a Southwest, D.C. neighborhood.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at around 9:39 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the Unit Blook of Galveston Street in Southwest, D.C.
Police Find Man Fatally Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Demontay Matthews, 25, of Southeast, D.C., unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services pronounced Mr. Matthews deceased at the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made as Detectives continue the search for the gunman and a motive for the fatal shooting.
