CHARLESTON, W.VA.- Yesterday, a 25-year-old Akron, Ohio, man learned he would be spending the next six years in federal prison after being sentenced for distributing methamphetamine throughout the Charleston, West Virginia area.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Terric Zaire Williams, 25, of Akron, Ohio, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas E. Johnston to 72 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of Methamphetamine.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston and documents filed with the District Court, on March 29, 2023, during an ongoing investigation into illicit narcotics distribution activities in the Southern District of West Virginia, law enforcement investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at a Charleston, West Virginia apartment where Williams was staying.
Investigators Find Nearly A Pound Of Cocaine
During the search, investigators located and seized around three-quarters of a pound of methamphetamine from a dining room trash can and living room closet. Williams admitted to investigators that the methamphetamine was his and he had intended to distribute it.
While executing the search warrant, investigators encountered and arrested Williams’ girlfriend, Emariel Kanay Tyler, after they noticed what they believed to be an outline of a firearm in her pants and a large amount of cash and a baggie of drugs hanging out of the pockets of her jacket.
Tyler, 20, of Akron, Ohio, pleaded guilty on November 18, 2024, to the use of a communications facility to facilitate a drug trafficking offense and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 5, 2025, in federal court in Charleston, West Virginia.

Acting U.S. Attorney Johnston commended the investigative work of the Charleston Police Department, which led to the successful prosecution of Williams.
