Ohio County Man Sentenced For Role In Drug Trafficking Organization

WHEELING, W.VA.- A 50-year-old Wheeling, West Virginia man will be spending the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced for his part in a drug trafficking operation that was responsible for distributing amounts of crack cocaine throughout the Northern District of West Virginia.

     On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Daryl Smith, 50, of Wheeling, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John Preston Bailey to 120 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Crack Cocaine.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

     According to Assistant U.S. Carly Nogay and documents filed with the District Court, During an ongoing illicit narcotics investigation, Smith was identified as a distributor of controlled substances. Smith had been selling quantities of crack cocaine throughout the Ohio County area located in the Northern District of West Virginia.

     Smith had been identified as being part of a drug trafficking organization that spanned from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Ohio Valley, West Virginia. Smith has multiple prior felony convictions, including drug and assault convictions.
