Police Arrest Man For The August 2024 Shooting Death Of Northeast Teen

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, an 18-year-old Northwest, D.C. man was taken into custody and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy that occurred on August 1, 2024, in Northeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the Unit Block of Tuckerman Street in Northeast, D.C.

Police Find Teen Shot Dead And Man Injured

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found David Bailey, 14, of Northeast, D.C., unresponsive, having succumbed to gunshot wounds. The boy was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. 

     Within minutes, Police Officers located a second shooting victim, an adult male, who was found nearby suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Service to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since recovered from his injury.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify Andre Chillous, 18, of Northwest, D.C., as the individual responsible for the shooting death of the young teen. At the time of the shooting, Mr. Chillous was a juvenile but was charged as an adult, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

     On Friday, February 28, 2025, Chillous was located and taken into custody pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant and formally charged with first-degree Murder While Armed. Chillous was processed on the charge and was remanded to the DC Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
