Parkersburg Man Sentenced For Federal Drug Crimes

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Monday, a 43-year-old Parkersburg, West Virginia man learned he would be spending nearly the next eight years in federal prison after being sentenced for having methamphetamine and fentanyl in his car during a traffic stop in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
On Monday, March 3, 2024, David Eric West, II, 43, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District County Judge Thomas E. Johnston to 92 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver Quantities of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston and documents filed with the District Court, on April 8, 2024, members of the Parkersburg Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by West just outside Parkersburg, West Virginia.
During the traffic stop and subsequent search of West’s motor vehicle, Police Officers located and seized an undetermined amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl inside the vehicle and a loaded Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun on West’s person.
During West’s previously entered guilty plea, he admitted that he possessed the illicit controlled substances found in the vehicle and that he intended to redistribute and sell the methamphetamine and fentanyl within and around the Southern District of West Virginia.

Acting U.S. Attorney Johnston commended the investigative work of the Parkersburg Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation that led to West’s successful prosecution.
