BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Major Crime Unit and the Brick Township Police Department are continuing the investigation into circumstances surrounding what led a 54-year-old Brick Township, New Jersey, man to shoot his neighbors and then fatally shot himself late Monday afternoon.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Monday, March 10, 2025, at around 4:45 p.m., members of the Brick Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting two gunshot victims at a residence located on Drake Drive in the Township.

Police Officers Find Man And Woman Shot

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man and woman both suffering from a gunshot wound. The two, who were identified as husband and wife, were immediately airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery and are listed in critical but stable condition.

During a subsequent investigation, Detectives of the Ocean County Major Crime Unit and the Brick Township Police Department learned that the husband and wife were shot by their next-door neighbor, John Adamo, 54, of Brick Township. It was also uncovered that Adamo shot the man while he was outside the neighboring residence and then fired a shot into the home, striking the woman.

Police Enter Residence Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

After shooting the two, Adamo fled back into his home. The Ocean County Regional S.W.A.T. Team and a Crisis Negotiating Team responded to the scene and surrounded Adamo’s residence in an attempt to have him surrender. Following two and a half hours, S.W.A.T. members made entry into the residence and found Adamo in an upstairs bedroom dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

S.W.A.T. members also noticed a pressure cooker inside the bedroom. At that time, neighboring homes were evacuated for safety concerns. The New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene and deemed the pressure cooker was not an explosive device.
