Two Men Charged With November 2024 Union City Beating Death

UNION CITY, NJ.- On Monday, March 10, 2025, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported last week, two Union City, New Jersey men were taken into custody and charged in connection with the beating death of a 56-year-old man that occurred on November 14, 2024, in Union City, New Jersey.
Gerson Vasquez, 26, and Antonio Santiago-Jiminez, 34, both of Union City, New Jersey, have each been charged with one count of first-degree Murder; and Endangering an Injured Victim. Vasquez was taken into custody by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Santiago-Jiminez was taken into custody by members of the Union City Police Department on Saturday, March 8, 2025, on Bergenline Avenue in Union City.
Both men were processed respectively on the charges and were remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Investigation Leads To Suspects Being Identified
The charges stem from an investigation that began on November 14, 2024, when, at around 11:00 a.m., members of the Union City Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive man on the ground behind a building located on 23rd Street in the City. Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered the lifeless body of Reynaldo Gonzalez, 56. Mr. Gonzalez was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m.
On Wednesday, November 26, 2024, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office concluded the Cause of Death to be Complications of Blunt Force Trauma Injuries and the Manner of Death to be Homicide. During an extensive investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Union City Police Department, led to Vasquez and Santiago-Jiminez being identified as the individuals responsible for Mr.Gonzalez’s death.
