Hudson County Authorities Investigating Jersey City Fatal Fire

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are continuing the investigation into the cause and origin of a fire that tragically claimed the life of a 53-year-old man that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Greenville section of Jersey City.

     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, just shortly after 3:00 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a fire at 289 Van Nostrand Avenue in the City.

Firefighters Find Man Critically Injured

     Upon arrival, First Responders found heavy smoke and fire within a second-floor apartment unit. During fire suppression, Firefighters found a man, later identified as Terrance Culbreath, 53, of Jersey City, in the kitchen of the apartment suffering from life-threatening injuries.

     Mr. Culbreath was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Culbreath tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 4:00 p.m.

     Although the fire does not appear suspicious at this time. The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
